Sailing Instructions

The Seafarers Sailing Club 2026 Sailing Instructions set out the rules and procedures for club racing, including race schedules, starting and finishing procedures, courses, marks, scoring, time limits and protest arrangements. Racing is conducted under the Racing Rules of Sailing, with Portsmouth Yardstick handicaps used for results. The racing area extends approximately 1.5 nautical miles from the Club slipway, with race courses and any changes communicated through the Club’s notice boards or by the Race Officer.

Competitors must sign in before racing and sign out after racing, wear a suitable buoyancy aid while afloat, and comply with the Club’s safety and equipment requirements. The standard target race time is approximately 75 minutes, with a two-hour race time limit and a 30-minute finishing window. Competitors are responsible for deciding whether their boat and crew are fit to sail in the prevailing conditions and must have appropriate third-party liability insurance of at least £3 million. The full Sailing Instructions, including the Notice of Race and additional competitor guidance, are available below.
